Taking
Responsibility
for
Our Carbon
Emission
OceaTerra funds verified carbon credits through Carbon Ethics to balance out greenhouse gas emissions. We started with the journeys of travelers who book with our founding companies, mytripology and True Indonesia.
What is carbon offsetting?

Almost everything we do releases greenhouse gases: the energy we use, the places we stay, the way we move. Carbon offsetting is one way to take responsibility for part of that impact. The emissions are estimated, then an equivalent amount of carbon credits is purchased. Each credit represents one tonne of CO₂e that a certified project has avoided or removed from the atmosphere.
Offsetting is not a free pass. It doesn't erase emissions, and it works best alongside real efforts to reduce them.
Why OceaTerra does this?

Our work rests on one idea: ocean and earth are one connected system. Climate is part of that connection, because a changing climate affects reefs, forests, the wildlife and communities that depend on them. Our coral restoration and wildlife rehabilitation programs protect ecosystems directly. Carbon offsetting adds another piece by addressing emissions, one of the pressures on those ecosystems.
How our
program works
Emissions are estimated.
We calculate and establish the emission estimation.
Carbon credits are purchased.
We buy verified credits from Carbon Ethics.
Credits are retired.
Retiring means a credit is permanently taken out of circulation, so it can’t be sold or counted again.
You receive proof.
Each contribution comes with a certificate carrying a serial number you can verify.
Today: trips with
mytripology and
True Indonesia

Our own calculator, eTerraCarbon, estimates the emissions of each trip by applying emission factors to accommodation, transfers, and activities. Each month, emissions from all confirmed trips are pooled and reported to Carbon Ethics, credits are purchased and retired, and travelers receive their certificate.
Working with CarbonEthics

To put this initiative into action, OceaTerra partners with CarbonEthics, an Indonesian climate organization working on nature-based climate solutions.
Through this partnerships, OceaTerra purchases carbon credits that support climate action while contributing to the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems.
But offsetting
isn't the whole answer.
The most important step isn't always to reduce emissions where possible. Offsetting is one additional action we can take while we continue working towards more responsible ways of travelling.
